Batam Seafood is a must for many visitors when they consider what to eat during their visit. The cost as well as assured freshness is a winner for many. But choosing the best for your taste and budget is not as straightforward as you might assume.
So where are the best places for seafood in Batam? This is a really important question when considering seafood. Some of the best places are often quite a long distance away, so where you’re staying will have an impact on where you may prefer to go.
Of the many different options for seafood in Batam, a trip to a kelong or restaurant near a Batam beach at the waters edge is preferred by many visitors . That means for many seafood locations in Batam you will also need transport. This is because in all probability, the location of your stay will be a considerable distance from the nearest seafood kelong.

Our advice is to always order shell fish such as gong-gong cockles and mussels from kelongs. Seafood at these places is better kept live in its natural environment. Many other places also offer shell fish but they do not always have the facilities or indeed the space to keep their catch live and fresh.
It is very important to realize that lobster and crab can be incredibly expensive. Always check the price and be present when your order is weighed.
When ordering live fish ask for the price per kilo of different types of fish. Avoid simply accepting the suggestion offered as there’s often a big difference in the prices of each type of fish.
The colloquial word for shellfish is kerang but it generally refers to cockle type shellfish. To assist you with further with the Indonesian words for Batam Seafood here’s s a few helpful words.
- Fish = Ikan
- Shrimp = Udang
- Squid = Sotong or Cumi-Cumi
- Clams = Kepah
- Crab = Kepiting
- Crayfish = Udang Kipas
- Small Conch = Gong-Gong
- Lele -= Catfish
- Tiram = Oyster
And finally the easiest (and most expensive) is Lobster which is also lobster in Indonesian.
Love Seafood
The very popular Love Seafood have 3 locations. A Kelong at Tanjung Piayu as well as a restaurant in Batam Center and now they’ve opened a new place at 168 foodcourt in Nagoya which is literally a 1 minute walk from our Vacation rentals.
The attraction here for many is the price, it’s very reasonable and the standard of cooking is good too. I always order their nasi goreng (fried rice) as it’s the best I’ve ever tasted.
Their kelong at Tanjung Piayu is a shorter distance from Nagoya and Batam Center than Barelang. It’s a large purpose built Batam seafood restaurant at the waters edge. Visitors can choose to sit in the floating kelong itself or the main restaurant. They are currently building a roof top area as well. They have an extensive range of tanks and nets for you to choose from.
We prefer to go here in on a weekday. This is because it is absolutely full at weekends and public holidays. If you don’t mind waiting for your food (which will not all come at once) then this is a great place to eat seafood. But be warned it can get very busy.
The Love Seafood restaurant in Batam Center is even closer. You can find it not too far from Mega Mall at the side of Dunia food court. They have a huge range of tanks to ensure they offer a good selection of live catch.
Although the prices at Tanjung Piayu are very good, the price is not the same at Batam Center. Live fish in particular is more expensive. But you don’t have to make the longer trip to
Where to Eat Batam Seafood
If you take your ferry to Harbour Bay it’s also a great place to get seafood whilst you wait for your departure or for lunch on arrival. For Batam Center ferry terminal Love seafood is the nearest location. If you travel to Sekupang there aren’t too many options, so you’ll need to travel. Kelong Baba is a recent addition with some good reviews.
Harbour Bay Seafood
The seafood centre at Harbour Bay used to be a sea fronted food court, but when the number of visitors started to drop, it was completely transformed into a live seafood centre. Harbour Bay is different from the kelongs as the live seafood is in tanks rather than nets in the sea. You do though get a good view of the live seafood which helps you choose.
The main vendors with large expansive sea fronted seating areas are Wey Wey Seafood,, Bay city and Lingga & Hawaii Seafood. Lingga have outlets in sekupang, some food courts as well as Nagoya Hill mall.
We offer free transport to Harbour Bay Seafood Restaurant, it’s by far the best place to sit looking out over the sea at the Singapore skyline and is set away from the busy ferry terminal area. If you choose us for a day tour with seafood lunch, Harbour Bay Seafood Restaurant is one of the choices for you to try. The service and ambiance here is simply the best.
It’s worth pointing out that the location of Harbour Bay for seafood is ideal if you’re in the Nagoya area as it’s close.
D’Steam Seafood
D’steam deserves a special mention because it is one of the few places in Nagoya that you can guarantee fresh seafood. Why is it called D’steam you may ask? Well you can literally steam your live seafood on your table with the steamer they provide.
Guests that stay with us in our Nagoya vacation rentals use this place a lot as it is only a short walk away.
Nagoya Hill mall is also very close to D’Steam.
The seafood menu includes favorites like various fish, squid, shell fish. They have curried as well as chili seasoning among 8 different ways for serving crab which is their signature dish. Many visitors here say the gong gong is also good.
They you can eat alfresco here or in their VIP air conditioned room. Or if you want to stay at home they also deliver, we often place orders for our guests and delivery is prompt.
It is also worth mentioning that they often have promotions here for discount vouchers on Batam spas as well as other places.
Just over the road from D’Steam is Batam’s Mookata Thai BBQ restaurant.
Piayu Live Seafood
You’ll find Piayu Live Seafood restaurant on the left as you head south towards Love Seafood. It’s a large kelong built out in the water. In fact the water at this kelong is so deep they have large boats moored to the side. Because it protrudes so far out in the water, the view is spectacular. It’s clean and the food is great too.
777 Live Seafood Restaurant Piayu
Nestled between Love Seafood and and Piayu live seafood is 777. This is a genuine wooden floating kelong restaurant. They have lots of nets with live catch for you to choose from. The gong-gong here is excellent and easily slides out of the shell. the toilets though are not for the faint hearted and could do with a good clean.
As well as the above, other Batam seafood restaurants on the Piayu peninsula are RM Jawa Melayu “renjonk” & RM Pantai Biru Sehati. These are further south and you could be charged a small fee to enter this area as it’s also a beach area which is normal for pay on entry.
Kopak Jaya 007 Kelong
Kopak Jaya Kelong at Barelang is simply the best and cheapest seafood in Batam and has quickly gained an amazing reputation for good quality cheap seafood. It is basically a floating restaurant strategically close to the Barelang suspension bridge. The view alone makes this place worth a visit, it’s spectacular. This is an area many consider when looking for Batam seafood.
Reviews of Kopak Jaya are mostly 5 star. Their staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The toilets are clean which is always a bonus at any kelong. All the food is live and ready you to choose.

Barelang Seafood Restaurant
Not far from Kopak Jaya is the Barelang Seafood restaurant, is closer to bridge 1 at Barelang and also has great views. The staff are attentive and the price is reasonable. You can order from their set menu or do a little fishing for what you’d like to eat. This is an ideal location to take a your dinner a little earlier than usual and watch the beautiful sunset as it looks west.
There are many other Batam seafood restaurants and kelongs in the Barelang area. Notable mentions are Kelong Restaurant Putra Utama, Golden Fish as well as Kelong Jembatan 2 which is located close to the 2nd bridge. There are more but the distance to the 2nd bridge is quite far so it’s important for you to remember that once you’ve arrived, it’s a long way back.
Barelang bridge number one is a very busy area at weekends and public holidays. With this in mind, you may experience a more peaceful atmosphere if you go on a little further at these times.
Golden Prawn
If you’ve been a regular visitor to Batam for some time, chances are that you’re familiar with Golden Prawn. Golden Prawn is Batam’s oldest and original seafood restaurant. There was a time where when this was the number one choice when choosing where to eat seafood. It’s still a great place to go, but other restaurants and kelongs have upped their game.
Golden Prawn frankly still operates on its former reputation and is comparatively expensive. There’s not a great view to benefit from as in Barelang and Piayu. That said, there’s lots to do at Golden City where this kelong restaurant is located. A good choice for families and groups seeking to combine other activities like Go karts and water sports and even buy a layer cake with a seafood meal.
Rezeki Seafood
This is another of the original seafood places that’s been in Batam for some time. Most of its customers are locals as Rezeki seafood is located quite far from most tourist spots at Batu Besar. This is a concrete built kelong platform with tanks showing live seafood on entry. As with Golden Prawn, Rezeki charge more than other places for food that is good but not often rated the full 5 stars.
Amazon Seafood
Amazon is a very nice wooden kelong built over the river mouth estuary next to Nongsa Ferry Terminal. The setting here her is calm and peaceful with views of Singapore in the distance and clear sight of ferries departing and arriving. They have a reasonable selection of tanks where you can choose your meal. Ideal opportunity to savor fresh seafood if you’re departing or arriving via Nongsa.
Setia Budi
Setia Budi is located at Nongsa beach. It’s built on wooden stilts over the sea. Breathtaking views from here allow you to see clearly see Singapore and even the tip of Malaysia. If you take your meal at sunset you will not be disappointed as the view is exceptional. Setia Budi is run by the same family as Rezeki so they certainly know their stuff. Price is around the same. I found the beer to be rather expensive.
Sei Enam
If great seafood and a clean air conditioned restaurant is important for you then Sei Enam is where you need to go for seafood. They have excellent rating and are famed for serving a 5 star chilli crab dish. Sei enam is walking distance from Mega mall and Batam Center ferry terminal. Located just over the road from Batam’s grand mosque.
Xiang Xiang Seafood
Looking for the local warung experience? Xiang Xiang Seafood have 2 simple style seafood restaurants. The most popular and closer to Nagoya is in Baloi. There is also a Xiang Xiang Seafood in Tunas. Their signature dish is Ikan Bakar or BBQ’s fish to you and me.
This is an extremely popular location for locals because the price here is probably the cheapest seafood in Batam. The food is good and the service acceptable. If price is important to you, then a trip to Xiang Xiang will not disappoint. Their restaurants have indoor and outdoor seating areas and get very busy in the evenings. We normally use them for lunch.
Food Courts
All of Batam’s food courts have at least one stall selling seafood. However, the choice of live seafood is limited by the number of tanks they have. Most stalls only have a few tanks, but some food courts like Windsor and A2 Foodcourt has more than one seafood seller which widens the choice a little, Nagoya Food Court close to City Walk has 3. Bay City seafood at Harbour Bay probably have the largest number of tanks with live crab shrimp and fish. Dunia food court have two stalls but you will find more people eating their seafood next door at Love Seafood.
I personally don’t eat shell fish at food courts. They rarely have live shell fish on view and appear to reheat them before serving. Just try and prize out gong-gong, it’s a tall order compared to kelongs where they slip out of the shell with ease.
