Tree Restaurant Eska Hotel.

Rooftop restaurant Eska Hotel Batam

This one’s on the rooftop folks.  A great place to eat in Batam, sit and look out over many areas of Batam.  The Tree restaurant is one of the few places that cooks western food really well at reasonable prices.

They often have specials on for events like Valentines, Easter, Christmas etc.

The Eska Hotel is located at Eska Hotel which is strategically located in the Ruko Ruko Kepri Mall No 27-34 Batam.  so you’ll probably need some transport from town but it’s not too far.

Tiger Bar

Tiger Bar Nongsa

Not too far from the Nongsapura ferry terminal in the Nongsa village, you can find Tiger Bar.  This is a popular hang out for locals and expats in Batam.  Their Sunday carvery is legendary and it’s a great place for you to chill too.

De Bottle

De Bottle Batam

This is a themed restaurant located in Batam Centre just over the road from the Simpang Kara Pujasera.

For a long time now De Bottle has been well known for it’s buffet style options.  You can get an all inclusive buffet and drink as much beer as you like for only Rp 150,000.  Sounds amazing right?  Well as with all things in life if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.  The value for money is really good, however over time the quality of the buffet has diminished. The BBQ’s meats in particular are not what they used to be and the beer they now serve is Bali Hai rather then the previous Prost offering.

I personally think they should have raised the price slightly to sustain the quality.

The BBQ buffet used to be served on the rooftop restaurant where the ambiance is really nice.  Nowadays the buffet is prepared on the ground floor at street level.

As well as the buffet, De Bottle serves pizzas and burgers as well as other western and Asian offerings.  For you wine lovers, they also have a really good selection in the wine shop.

Harbour Bay

Harbour Bay Seafront Restaurant BatamHarbour Bay has for a long time been a favorite destination for people looking for a place to eat in Batam with nice surroundings. For a long time, there was a food court here at the waters edge next to Harbour Bay ferry terminal.  The food court though, has been dismantled and is being replaced by bespoke restaurants, many with an emphasis on seafood.

On the eastern side though there’s still a long line of restaurants and bars offering a wide variety of food including BBQ’s and buffets as well as a simple plate of fries.  There’s also often musical entertainment at one bar or even more, especially at weekends.  The atmosphere here is very pleasant with many tables at the waters edge looking out over the south China sea toward Singapore.

Fresh Beer Batam

Fresh Beer Batam Bar and RestaurantThis is all about the beer folks, and this is my favorite beer.  The best way I can Fresh Beer is that the taste resembles a good German beer.  You can tell good hops as well as other ingredients have been use to make it.

Fresh beer comes in several flavors as well as colours including yellow, black stout and green – yep you heard it green beer.

Fresh Beer have their own place, not too far from Batam Centre Ferry terminal, it’s tucked away though so you’ll need to use google maps to find it. There’s also rooftop seating here but it’s not immediately obvious when you arrive so ask if you can’t find it.  As well as beers, they also serve quite a good range of of food which is mostly for local Asian tastes.  Of particular note is the ‘specials’ page on the menu.  You can order crocodile, snake, even bat dishes.

Fresh beer also have several outlets at food courts.  You can find them at Dunia food court in Batam Center, Food centre 28 near the Galael crossroads at Palm Springs as well as at the J8 food court opposite DC (Diamond City) mall.

You can buy fresh beer by the glass, but it’s mostly ordered in beer dispensers. Sizes are 1 litre and 4 litres  with a tap to pour it.  The dispensers have a hollow tube where ice is put to ensure the beer stays really cold.  They also provide you with iced glasses from their freezer, again to ensure the beer stays cold.

So if you’d prefer a good draft beer rather than the bottled variety you know where to get it now.

Hotel 01 Batam Center

Hotel 01 BatamI think it’s fair to say you’ll either love or loath this place.  It’s an Egyptian themed hotel and restaurant.  There’s Egyptian murals and statues practically everywhere you look.  I have friends that call it hideous, but then again I have others that find the place enchanting.

The hotel only gets a 3 star rating (see our 5 stars) but that takes nothing away from the decor.  From the accompanying photo, you can clearly see how unique this place really is.

Food here is standard but as I mentioned this is all about the decor.

You’ll find Hotel 01 in Batam centre not too far from Harmony convention center, on the corner opposite the Mitra 10 hardware store.

Teras Cafe

Teras Cafe BatamTeras Cafe has been in Batam ever since I can remember.  It’s probably as close as you’ll ever get to a traditional western style restaurant.  So if it’s a good steak, spaghetti bolognese, or side orders of garlic bread that floats your boat, Teras know how to cook it properly.  The decor inside is very western too with small little alcoves to sit and eat in.

Not the cheapest place in town to eat but the quality is assured and ideal for those who crave for western food in Batam.

Teras is located at the Baloi traffic lights in the Penuin area opposite the large car show room.  Parking can be a little awkward on busy nights.

Sate Kendal – The Best Satay in Batam

Sate Kendal the best Satay in BatamA trip to Batam or Indonesia would not be complete without tasting the local satay.  Sate Kendal is a very basic warung style eating place, the tables and the chairs are really rough and ready but the food is good and the satay in particular is fresh.

This place is buzzing from around sunset until late into the evening, and on Saturdays you’ll struggle to find a place to sit.  The reason for the success of Sate Kendal is quality and quantity.  You pay a little more than you would at a street vendor, and only slightly more than in a food court.  But the sheer size of the portions and taste make is all worth while.

You can find Sate Kendal on the road into Orchid housing area close to Palm Springs, opposite the large Edukits outlet.  They also have a restaurant at Botania near to the airport.

If the idea of eating at a run down warung isn’t appealing, you can order via GoJek and have it delivered.  We often arrange orders for our guests staying in Nagoya.

Sin Wei Kopitiam

Sin Wei Kopitiam BatamFor all you lovers of Chinese meats, this is the best location in Batam to get them all in one place.  They serve really delicious Chinese duck chicken and pork, all accompanied with a really flavorful chicken rice.

My favorite is the Peking roast duck, but I usually order a mixed plate of crispy pork (siobak), roast duck (bebek), soy chicken and char siu.

Sin Wei usually have several different offers ongoing like an all you can eat buffet, plate sharing and even table top bbq.

If you’re holding a party, this is a great place to order your food from too.  If you order whole chicken, duck or even a 1 kg slab of roast pork the value is amazingly.  They even cut it all up for you if you wish.

You can find Sin Wei Kopitiam along the street opposite to BCS mall.  From the mall it’s only a 2 minute walk. For special offers and current prices, visit the Sin Wei Facebook site

Dragon Inn Chinese Restaurant

You can find this restaurant at the Holiday Inn Resort Batam  the resort is located at Waterfront City, commonly known as Marina at  Tanjung Riau, which is not too far from the Sekupang ferry terminal on the western side of Batam.

You’ll find a variety of Chinese dishes here as well as a good dim sum menu. Dishes can be ordered in portions or you can partake of their buffet service.  The Peking duck and hokkien noodles are worthy of special mention here as is the Chinese themed decor.

Grand Duck Batam

As the name would suggest, this popular place to eat Chinese food in Batam is famous for its Peking duck.  However they have an extensive menu of other Chinese as well as local tasty dishes.  There’s a wide selection of soups and porridge to choose from too.  Of course any Chinese restaurant worth its salt will also have dim sum dishes available to order and the list here is quite extensive.  For those looking for vegetarian food in Batam cooked Chinese style, Grand Duck has lots of choice .

Formerly located at Nagoya Hill mall, they’re now located immediately opposite BCS mall in the Penuin area. An alternative to Gand Duck is Duck king which can be found at Grand Batam Mall
