Batam Day Tour Options

Most Batam Day Tour operators insist that you follow their set schedule and mostly operate tours  for large groups on buses and coaches.  We think it’s better that you choose yourself what you wish to do and where you wish to go in a car or minibus just for you.  Just tell us what you want to do and we’ll create a tour especially to suit you.  Advance payment is not required.  We simply need to see your ferry or hotel booking and you can make the payment at the start of your tour.

We also understand that female groups wishing to take a tour may feel a little more comfortable with a lady driver / tour guide  – please discuss this with us if it’s your preference.

You can choose pick ups pretty much any where in Batam including your hotel, Harbour Bay  Batam Center Sekupang as well as Nongsa.  At the end of your tour we can also arrange for freshly made warm Batam layer cake to be delivered for you.

How to Get to Batam For Your Day Tour

Ferry Route for Batam Day Tour

Chances are that you’ll be traveling from Singapore to Batam by ferry.  You can also take a crossing to Batam from Johor Bahru Malaysia as well as other Indonesian islands in the Riau Archipelago.

If you wish to fly to Batam, it also served by Hang Nadim international airport which is also a hub for many other major cities and districts in Indonesia. Once you’ve arrived you’ll need to get around.  We have comprehensive information about Batam transport and day tours should you need more information.

What is there to do on a Day Tour?

Many tour operators have a fixed schedule meaning you have to go where they take you. They often offer these cheap because they make more money on commissions at the various stops than they do on the tour itself.   So you may find it rather restrictive being herded around like this.

Be careful renting cheap offers of vehicle and driver for the day.  You can’t be sure of the vehicle condition and the drivers will usually insist they take you to places where they can obtain commission.

A day tour with us means you get to choose where you want to go, we’re happy to make suggestions, but your freedom to choose your destinations and activities is paramount.

Shopping as part of your Day Tour

Fancy a bit of culture or taking the tourist trail?  Very popular tourist destinations are the temples.  The two main ones are Maha Vihara Duta at Maitreya Bukit Beruntung in an area known as Sungai Panas as well as Vihara Budhi Bhakti located in the center of Nagoya.  If you’re looking for vegetarian food in Batam they also have a very good range of vegetarian food for sale at really reasonable prices.

Barelang

Barelang bridge

If you’ve not visited the suspension bridge at Barelang then some would argue that you’ve not been to Batam.  The bridge is literally Batam’s logo and is one of the most popular destinations for people to visit.  Here you’ll find lots of street food, people fishing.  It’s a popular place for families and friends to hang out too.
The Barelang area is Batam’s most popular spot for Seafood, there’s lots kelongs (restaurants built over the water) and seafood restaurants in this area.  Seafood will probably be on your tick list for your visit as it’s so much cheaper in here.  We have a full guide to seafood in Batam on our dedicated blog post.

Vietnam Camp

If you have the time to venture a little further south in Barelang, the Vietnam camp is a very popular and interesting place to visit.  This was a place of refuge for many Vietnamese boat people who fled because of the war.  They made this camp their home and built  schools, churches and even hospitals.  The camp was closed in the nineties and the refugees ordered to return home.  Many chose to commit suicide fearing a worse fate should they return.

Grand Mosque Batam

Grand Mosque Masjid Raya Batam

Known locally as the Masjid Raya and is located very close to Batam Center ferry terminal and Mega Mall alongside  the mayors office.  The Grand Mosque is renowned for its pyramid type architecture.  Once inside you’ll be amazed at how spacious it looks and feels as there is no central support just a big wide open space.   Well worth a visit.

What to Eat in Batam on your Day Tour

Where do I start?  You really will not be far from your favorite food here.  The most popular hawker centre in Batam is A2 food court but there’s also Nagoya Food Court as well as vast range of restaurants for you to choose from.  If you’d like to eat Indian food, or want to take advantage of Japanese food in Batam, Asian or even Western food, you will easily find a suitably good place to eat in Batam.
